If your CAQ will not cover all of your program period at INRS, you should renew it before its expiring date. More information about the procedure and requirements can be found here:

INRS students with a student visa have the following advantages of staying in Canada:
  • As a foreign student staying temporarily in Quebec, you may be authorized to drive a vehicle using your foreign driver’s licence or an international driver’s licence. More information can be found on the “Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec” (SAAQ) website:

  • After starting your studies at INRS, you will be able to apply for permanent residence (as a permanent skilled worker) of Canada if you satisfy both of the following conditions:
    • Having finished all courses of your program.
    • Having completed the first year of your studies at INRS.

Typically, the Canadian citizenship application involves the following steps:
  1. Applying for a “certificat de sélection du Québec” (CSQ) :

  2. Applying for permanent residence in Canada:
    Once you receive your CSQ, you must apply for a permanent resident visa to the Canadian visa office in Buffalo, United States:

  3. Applying for Canadian citizenship:
    After 3 years of staying in Canada you will be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. Further information can be found here:
